The Word of God

From time to time I come across books, articles or other reading material that I have found particularly helpful, either for myself or for a fellow ‘seeker after the truth’ on our spiritual journey into the Christian faith.

A constant source of inspiration for me over the years has been the work of the ‘Bible Reading Fellowship’ or ‘BRF’ as they are better known by. Their output is not only comprehensive it is also invaluable!

is a registered charity and also a limited company, and has been in existence since 1922. Their aim is to help people to experience the living God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – at a deeper level, and enable them to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. They are committed to finding new ways (for example using the new media) to engage people of all ages with the Bible, both inside and beyond the Church. And through all that they do – publishing, training, quiet days, on the web – they work to resource individuals and church communities in their Christian discipleship through the Bible, prayer and worship.

A very good example of what they have to offer is their little ‘New Daylight’ publication. New Daylight offers four months of daily Bible reading and reflection for everybody who wants to go deeper with God. It is ideal for those looking for a fresh approach to regular Bible study, and offers a talented team of contributors who present a Bible passage (text included), helpful comment and a prayer or thought for the day ahead. Bible readings for your walk with God really says it all, all that I can add is that I find this little pocket companion an important asset in my spiritual growth. In this hectic world we live in it gently brings me back on a daily basis to what really is important and that is a greater understanding and appreciation of God’s word in my life.

Here are some more brf publications that may help you on your journey:

Facing the Darkness and Finding the Light

Reflections for troubled times from the book of RevelationDavid Winter

Where does evil come from? Why is it present in the world and within our own lives? Why do the innocent suffer and – too often – the powerful prevail? If there is a God and he is good, why is the world that he created constantly marred by conflict, war and natural disaster? Such huge questions, with which humanity has grappled since the very beginning, lie at the heart of Revelation, that mesmerising and often puzzling book of the Bible. In this book, David Winter takes us on a step-by-step journey through the apocalyptic and mysterious visions of Revelation. For more information click here.
